Escalona Architecture

Maria Julia Escalona, AIA completed her undergraduate studies at the School of Architecture of the University of Puerto Rico and holds a Master Degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with complimentary studies from the Technical University of Munich. Through representation in 2D drawings, 3D modeling, diagramming, and design thinking, she is constantly focused in the shift between research, academia and professional practice, always looking for new ways of understanding traditional and non-traditional practices of architecture. Escalona Architecture Group LLC was founded in 2021 as a Limited Liability Company with Maria Julia Escalona as managing principal. Trust, honesty, transparency, ethics and compromise, i.e. the discipline of the architectural professional, have made this effort, our company, to grow and now in 2023 is tackling an array of projects in residential and commercial architecture.

Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón

Cristina Centeno López completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Design and a Master of Architecture at the University of Puerto Rico. Additionally, she pursued a second Master’s degree in Advanced Design and Digital Architecture from Elisava- Barcelona School of Design and Engineering in Spain. She is currently an architectural designer and manager of the 3D Printing Lab in the San Juan based firm, Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón. Cristina, who is in the final steps of completing her licensure, has worked as a designer on multi-family affordable housing and institutional projects in AD&V. She has expertise on the topics of emerging technologies such as digital fabrication and parametric design and their application in the architecture field. Before joining AD&V, Cristina developed and directed the STEAM Fab Lab inside the TASIS School in Dorado, where she established a curriculum and taught multiple design-focused courses where students could problemsolve and fabricate their designs using digital fabrication tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC milling machines.

With five years of professional experience, Jorge worked on various projects in Healthcare, Commercial, F&B, Hospitality, and Multi-family buildings sectors across Florida and Puerto Rico. After Hurricane Maria, he returned to his native island to contribute to the reconstruction efforts. Currently Jorge serves as a Design Manager at V Architecture in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Pieri + Associates

Yolymar es natural de Villalba, Puerto Rico. Es considerada una persona dedicada, creativa, amable, responsable y alguien dispuesta a aprender cosas nuevas. En el 2018 obtuvo su bachillerato de arquitectura de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico, recinto de Ponce. Durante esa etapa, tuvo la oportunidad de hacer un intercambio y estudiar un semestre en Madrid, tomando cursos de urbanismo y fotografía. También participó en organizaciones como: USGBC, AIAS, MAS y LINEA. Actualmente trabaja en la oficina de Pieri + Associates Architects y también con FASE 3 Arquitectura. Poco a poco, ha podido participar en diferentes etapas de los proyectos y ha aprendido sobre las distintas facetas que envuelve la profesión. Espera aprovechar cada oportunidad que aporte tanto a su desarrollo profesional como personal.

Integra Design Group

En el año 2016 obtuvo su grado de Bachillerato en Diseño Ambiental de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Rio Piedras. Continuando su educación, obtuvo una Maestría en Arquitectura de la Escuela de Arquitectura, Universidad de Puerto Rico en Río Piedras en el año 2018. Durante su último año cursando maestría, tras el impacto del huracán María, participó en el proyecto de investigación "Mapa de historia: un inventario preliminar de los sitios y zonas históricas de Puerto Rico", en colaboración con Para La Naturaleza y la Arquitecta Diana Luna. Esta iniciativa fue reconocida con el Premio de Honor del 2018 AIA Honor Awards en Investigación y Publicaciones. En el año 2018 Sairimar se une a la oficina de Manuel Bermúdez Arquitecto, donde trabajó junto al Arquitecto Manuel Bermúdez y la Arquitecta Mariela Bravo con la oportunidad de desarrollar diversos proyectos de carácter institucional, educativos, entre otros. En la actualidad Sairimar forma parte del equipo de Integra Design Group bajo la supervisión del Arquitecto Luis Galarza.

Integra Design Group

Mi nombre es Giancarlo Cajigas González, soy natural del pueblo de Moca pero actualmente vivo en San Juan. Cursé mi carrera universitaria en la Universidad de Puerto Rico Recinto de Rio Piedras donde obtuve mi Bachillerato en Diseño Ambiental con una “Major” en Mercadeo. Luego realice dos maestrías, la primera en Administración de Empresas (MBA) y la segunda en Arquitectura (M.Arch). Actualmente me encuentro trabajando en Integra Design Group PSC en el rol de “Architectural Designer + Proposal Coordinator”. Me considero una persona muy determinada y creativa a la hora de buscar soluciones. En mi tiempo libre me gusta poder salir a nuevos lugares y degustar de buena gastronomía.

Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón

Juan Carlos Ramos is an Architectural Designer and Render Specialist at Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón. In his 4 years of experience, he has worked in different projects, scales and conditions, allowing him to develop himself in commercial, mixed-use, and hospitality projects, as well as master plans for urban projects and affordable housing. As an illustrator, he has been part of the team for the publishing house Andelani Press, participating in its publication: "Mi Santurce: Pasado, Presente y Futuro". He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in environmental design with a master’s degree in architecture from the School of Architecture of the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. He also holds an associate degree in interior design from the University of Puerto Rico in Carolina. He was recognized by the AIA Puerto Rico with the Benjamín Vargas Scholarship for his thesis presentation “El Nuevo Distrito, Regeneración, Reinvención e Integración de Centros Comerciales”, as well as obtaining his certification in design and construction of wooden furniture through his passage through the design program at the UPR in Carolina.

Vanessa Crespo holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Miami, with a minor in French and Ecosystem Science and Policy. She actively engaged in leadership as the treasurer of the School of Architecture student council. Among Vanessa's achievements is a second-place win in the GoFriday houseboat competition organized by Ecosteel, her "Mangroon" floating house design was highlighted for its excellence. Notably, her sustainable design was chosen for presentation at Ecosteel's headquarters in Portugal and featured in publications such as Espaço de Arquitetura, University of Miami’s News@ TheU and Winter 2022 magazine. Vanessa's internship experiences, including positions at Álvarez-Díaz & Villalón, Architect Astrid Diaz and Arquiteg, have fueled her passion for high-end residential housing, green architecture, and commercial designs. Driven by an aspiration to innovate sustainable development, Vanessa is determined to make a lasting impact on Puerto Rico's environment.

Arq. Ángel Pomales, PSC.

Joven polifacético, cantante y arquitecto licenciado de profesión, egresado del programa de Maestría de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Rio Piedras. Desde niño tomó cursos de arte: particularmente música, dibujo y pintura. Igualmente cultivó su liderazgo participando en juntas directivas de clubes y asociaciones a nivel escolar y universitario. Una vez graduado trabajó por servicios profesionales con diversos arquitectos, hasta que el año de obtener la licencia como arquitecto (2017) fundo ATELIER INGENIO LLC, junto con el arquitecto en entrenamiento y amigo Tomas J. Santiago Rodríguez. En el año 2018, en la Asamblea del CAAPPR fue seleccionado como Tesorero y se integra a la Junta de Gobierno del CAAPPR por los próximos dos años (2018-2020). En el año 2022, emprende en solitario, fundando ARQ. ÁNGEL POMALES CSP. De manera concurrente, en el año 2022 se integra como cantante a la orquesta de salsa, Apollo Sound de Roberto Roena.

María Isabel Brunet Uriarte is a Designer in Architecture and Project Manager in ECo, PSC. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, with 5 years of experience, in High-end residential, and low-income Housing, as well as working with the RFP process for CRP-DR projects. She is currently working towards her Architecture License, passing two out of six divisions of the NCARB 5.0 exam. She has been able to partake in different roles throughout her years of experience, ranging from designing small 800 sq ft. low-income homes to 13,000 sq ft. multiuse facilities. Her passion for creating inclusive spaces for Puerto Rico is what drives her every day in hopes of making a better island for the people that call it home.

V Architecture

Frances holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (PUCPR). A desire to continue being creative in the built environment through environmental graphics led her to complete a Master of Graphic Arts from Atlantic University College. Followed by an interest in interiors, she also pursued a Master’s Degree from Elisava, Barcelona. Her final group project, a design proposal for a co-working space in Spain, was awarded Best Project at the Elisava Masters Awards under the Space Design Category. Delving into other areas of design has helped her enrich her design process, expanding to a range of possibilities, from the most artistic to the most technical aspects. Frances currently works at V Architecture as an architect in training and interior designer.

Nacido en San Juan y criado en Bayamón, de padre cubano y madre puertorriqueña. Durante mi niñez, estudié en la Academia Santa Rosa en Bayamón. Mi proceso en arquitectura comenzó cuando entré a la escuela de arquitectura de la Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico. Luego de graduarme en 2017, comencé mi carrera en el mundo de la gerencia de proyectos, colaborando en proyectos importantes como en Popular Center en Hato Rey y otros. Posteriormente, trabajé en proyectos en California, donde me adentré en métodos constructivos que no son muy comunes en la Isla. Recientemente, he regresado a trabajar en proyectos en Puerto Rico. En 2022, fundé junto con dos socios una firma de consultoría donde ayudamos a clientes a repensar sus espacios de manera diferente y guiarlos en el proceso. Creo que mi trayectoria representa mi compromiso con la arquitectura y Puerto Rico. Sigo buscando formas de enriquecer y fortalecer mi campo, manteniendo vivo el amor por la arquitectura que cada día se fortalece.

José Luis Pagán is a 3D Artist and Architectural Designer with a strong focus on graphic composition and innovation. He began his journey at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, where he developed a solid understanding of design dynamics. With a B.Arch degree, he embarked on a transformative path. During nearly a decade, José Luis made significant contributions at Toro Arquitectos, honing proficiencies in Architectural and Graphic Design, as well as 3D Artistry. His professional journey continued through roles at Divisions Studio and Image Synth Visualization, showcasing versatility across various design aspects. Currently, José Luis applies his creative skills at Álvarez Diaz & Villalón, effectively blending technical expertise with imaginative creativity.

Benny O. Rodríguez se desempeña como junior architect en la oficina del Arq. Orval Sifontes desarrollando proyectos propios del arquitecto como también propuestas para clientes de la oficina. Como diseñador, ha realizado Diseños Conceptuales, Visualizaciones 3D y Documentaciones As-Built. En el 2021, fundó As-Built Plans PR LLC, una compañía que busca facilitar la realización de documentaciones as-built a arquitectos e ingenieros. Entre sus experiencias más recientes, ha tenido la oportunidad de documentar estructuras privadas, institucionales e históricas junto a su equipo. Como estudiante, participó junto a sus compañeros en la documentación arquitectónica de las estructuras históricas Casa Wiechers Villalonga en Ponce y Casa Roig en Humacao, recibiendo el primer y segundo lugar respectivamente. Como parte de su filosofía y entendimiento arquitectónico, Benny cree en la importancia de la sostenibilidad y la preservación histórica, afrontando los problemas del cambio climático junto a la narración de una estructura histórica.

Miraida Rodriguez Muniz is a dynamic architect specializing in process optimization and known for her various achievements in the field. With a Master's in Design & Innovation Technologies from the Instituto Europeo di Design in Milan, Italy, her academic journey has been marked by excellence. She also holds a Bachelor's in Architecture and Business Administration with a focus on Project Management, both from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. Her technical skills contributed to her team recognition when awarded first place in the Library of Congress Drawings Collection competition of historic buildings. For several years, she served as the Executive Director of the Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico, where she demonstrated her prowess in project management, community engagement, and program development. Her commitment to pushing boundaries and driving progress makes her an influential force in shaping the built environment.

Joana A. Otero Otero obtuvo un grado profesional en Arquitectura y una maestría en Ingeniería con concentración en Gerencia de Construcción otorgado por la Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico. Asimismo, fue parte de proyectos como Procesos Participativos Comunitarios con el Proyecto ENLACE – G8 – y REMEN “Renovando mi Entorno'' y Trastalleres. Es miembro activo del CAAPPR y de la Comisión Revisora de Educación Continua de los Arquitectos y Arquitectas Paisajistas de Puerto Rico, cual está adscrita a la JEAAP. En la práctica profesional, Otero ha estado involucrada en diversos ámbitos de la industria de la construcción. Joana, ha manejado proyectos de pequeña y gran escala; diseño de interiores, viviendas unifamiliares, de uso mixto y comerciales e institucionales. Posterior al Huracán María estuvo involucrada en el proceso de reconstrucción y plan de mitigación con FEMA y el Cuerpo de Ingenieros en Puerto Rico. Además, fungió como Gerente de Control de Calidad para Proyectos Federales de mitigación y reconstrucción en Florida y Georgia.
